You Are a Badass is the self-help book for people who desperately want to improve their lives but don’t want to get busted doing it.

In this refreshing entertaining how-to guide, bestselling author and world-traveling success coach, Jen Sincero, serves up 27 bite-sized chapters full of hilariously inspiring stories, sage advice, easy exercises, and the occasional swear word, helping you to:

  • Identify and change the self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors that stop you from getting what you want.
  • Create a life you totally love. And create it now.
  • Make some damn money already. The kind you’ve never made before.

By the end of You Are a Badass, you’ll understand why you are how you are, how to love what you can’t change, how to change what you don’t love, and how to use The Force to kick some serious ass.”

Let’s dive in. For starters, I have been wanting to read this book for a while. I have heard great things about it since it came out and have had a couple people personally recommend it. That being said, I’m quite hopeful this book will be:

1. Be a great inspiration and self-awareness read.

2. Help to form some lasting mindset and habits.

I mean the title is literally, You are a Badass. Who doesn’t want to be called or viewed as a Badass at one thing or another? If you’re on this page I’m just going to go ahead an assume you want more in life than what you have going on. Especially with the year we have all had, who would have thought 2020 would end up like that! I figured for the first book of a new year we all could use a little push, maybe a huge shove, into some Badass times, mindsets, and habits.

First Impressions – Intro

As far as first impressions go, I’m liking what I’ve read so far. Jen starts right off the bat with going into what she was experiencing in life. Let me tell you… Not stellar, but 100% feel the struggle she expresses and describes. I know I’m not the only one who can relate. The book seems to read off like she is talking right to you, a friend, who is opening up on her hardships and expressing her desire for more because she knows she is worth it.

“And the most painful part was that deep down I KNEW I was a total, rock star…”

I absolutely love the fact she called herself a “rock star”. She knows she doesn’t want to settle, and she can get what she wants out of life. And to get what you want means, you have to get clear on what makes you most happy and feeling alive. I feel like we can all agree that we want to feel happy and are truly living in this life.

She then goes on to give you the first little mindset switch: wanting, shifted to deciding.  I literally laughed out loud at how she differentiated between the two:

“Wanting can be done sitting on the couch with a bong in your hand and a travel magazine in your lap.

Deciding means jumping in all the way, doing whatever it takes, and going after your dreams with the tenacity of a dateless cheerleader a week before prom night.”

I was cheerleader and that is funny shit.

Another thing I like about this intro is that she brings up the fact that you typically hear about people hitting rock bottom and then something clicks. All the sudden, they just start working for the life they’ve always dreamed of. She brings up the point, “You don’t have to wait until you hit rock bottom to start crawling out of your hole.”. And you know what… She is fucking right.

Needless to stay after her Intro for the book I’m pretty excited to get reading. So, grab a book and join me for #3weekcourageousreads. I would love to hear what you think about it as you read, what lessons you learned, how it changed your mindset, what made you laugh, etc. Anything and everything you want to share I’m all ears!

Let’s do this.

UPDATE:

Oh my this book…

Talk about a book being jam packed full of lessons, guiding points, mindset switches, exercises, and how-to changes. Jen really goes in hard for Part 1: How You Got This Way. She immediately starts off with how our mindset is influenced by all these external factors (people, events, attitudes) that have shaped us. Giving some interesting points and concepts to consider, this part of the book made me think back a lot and help me understand a few things about me. She gives you exercises to help you overcome those limiting mindsets and makes you abundantly aware that you can in fact, face and work past them.

Now Part 2: How to Embrace Your Inner Badass, is full, and I mean full of steps and how-tos for embracing yourself! I honestly love this part. Some things are common sense, but sometimes you need that little reminder to love yourself and do these things Jen elaborates on. This part is all about the mindset switch to something better. ( MINDSET IS EVERYTHING) . It’s these little reminders and switches that can help you stay the course, move forward, and get you to a better place in your head and in life taking on all that comes your way. And please, read about Loincloth Man… Bahahaha. I really enjoyed this story and the lesson derived from it.

Part 3: How to Tap into the Motherlode is all about centering yourself and getting in touch with “the Universe”. Jen goes on in previous chapters to explain that she is spiritual and has multiple different terms for her connection to a higher power/being: Energy Source, Big Guy, Spirit, The Force, The Mother Lode, etc. She’s got a lot of them. She in fact encourages it when implementing these changes in your life. She gives you how-tos and talks about being present and manifesting your dreams in a very real way. She even brings up the celebration of your life… Which if you weren’t already aware, is a big deal with me! The tips and points in this portion help you to be more aware of how you react and how you experience life. Read about her trip to India. I’m honestly a little jealous of her experience and how eye opening it is.

Part 4: BS = Big Snooze. Shifting your perspective is key in becoming who you want to be. This portion helps you grab hold of your stories for yourself and your poor habits limiting you progression & promotion and become aware of what you’re doing whether it be procrastinating, self sabotage, or multiple other limiting agents at you allow in. Chapter 18 and 19 READ and RE-READ. I highly resonated with Chapters 18 and 19 because I live in Procrastination-ville and vacation in Overwhelm City. This section helps you focus in and become aware of what is stopping you. By this, it is helping you to examine your mindset and lean into some great tips and exercise to hep you move past it.

Last, but certainly not least. Part 5 is JAM PACKED of advice, tips, exercises, & stories to help you relate. Its here where Jen gives you the tools to help you shape up your life and control you path by belief, plans, hard work, and so much more. These are things you need to read and get some guidance on. I loved all of Part 5, but if I say more I’m sure I’ll give something way that you need to read for yourself.

OVERALL:

GREAT BOOK! I love the way in which she writes as well as all her tips and explanations. She does really takes the time to break it all down to help you understand, relate, and apply what she is talking about. I enjoyed her no fluff, no BS attitude that comes across in her writing (because it is quite similar to how I write but I understand that its not for everyone).

Even with that said, I do think you should grab a copy or listen to the audio. Hopes this review helps you on your decision and I can’t wait to hear what you gain, learn, and apply from this book!
